all the stuff about my pets as it happens

Peanut's new disease - June 25, 2008

I took Peanut to work for his teeth cleaning, growth removal off his eyelid, and x-rays just to check out his joints. Of course, he's managed to get yet another disease, since the ones he's already got are not enough. I noticed some whitish deposits under his skin on his left front paw. On a fluke, I asked my techs to x-ray that paw, and low and behold, Peanut's has radiopaque deposits all throughout his paw. I can only guess that it's calcinosis circuscripta because I had taken a similar lesion from my parents' GSD's elbow area about 4 years ago. It looks really cool on x-ray and it's completely not painful to Peanut as far as we can tell, so it's here to stay.

Lupa's passing - April 9, 2008

I had to make the difficult decision to have Lupa euthanized today. She had spent the whole night pacing because of a storm and just couldn't get up anymore in her hind limbs. Lupa in her favorite corner in her last homeIt was the hardest drive to work I have ever had in my life and I feel very sympathetic towards all those clients of mine who have to make that one last drive to our clinic with their beloved pet. I chose to have Lupa's ashes returned to me, so that I can spread them in a park where she last ran freely in Richardson before we moved out to McKinney. It's where she'd want to spend all her days if she was still my sweet big girl.
